Exploring Still Life Outside with OCF

I stumbled upon a new genre for myself after being stuck in my studio on a pretty day.

I took a flower from my porch planter and my mini-Beauty Dish outside for an impromptu portrait session. :)

The great thing about small subjects and flash is that you can use a small modifier and still get very soft light. The softness of light that the modifier produces is in direct relation to the size of your subject. You can take a bare flash and light a person with it and get harsh shadows. Light an ant with that same flash and you will have soft, buttery light.

I have spent almost everyday since shooting outside...

I am thrilled that I can combine my love for OCF, flowers, and being outside all at the same time.

Here is a pullback showing the setup I used:

I have no idea why I have never thought of taking my cut blooms outside before now.

Do you have self-imposed limits on your shooting that might not even need to be there?

I would love to hear what they are and how you might get past them!

Happy creating!
