This week, the majority of my rare, free-time was spent sewing and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. For some reason it is something that I spend more time thinking about doing then actually doing. Although every time I force myself to work on a project I find myself in my happy place and wonder why I didn’t do this earlier.

Since this week’s Project 52 theme was Around the House it was a no brainer for me to highlight my week of sewing…

Boy Month has officially kicked off  at my all-time favorite blog Made. Made’s Creator, Dana will spend a month highlighting all things boy!

I loved her projects from last year and even attempted one of her simpler projects on my own. This year I decided I am going to do each of the projects, no matter how intimidated or out of my element I feel.

Her first creation was some basic pants. She provides a detailed tutorial and pattern that really couldn’t make it any easier. I wanted to give the pattern a test run before cutting into my “real” fabric, so I used a discarded pair of Dustin’s work pants.  I ended up making some slight changes to the  provided pattern so that it would  fit a 4 year old (she explains how to do that here).

After my first attempt I felt prepared enough to use my real fabric. I shortened the length ans dropped the waist a bit and ended up with this…

They turned out great, although they kind of remind me of pajama pants but whatever. I made them,  so I can deem them acceptable for whatever use I like. I will admit that I used absolutely no creativity with these as I even used the same fabric as shown in the tutorial. This was my first time to use seersucker and I love how easy it is to work with and how light it is. Perfect for the upcoming summer. Best thing  was when I showed them to Gavin and he said, “Mommy, I love these!” and he did not want to take them off. Awww shucks.

Not to neglect Ada, here she is wearing a dress I made for her last year. It is made from the  Sweet Dress pattern that I purchased from Leila and Ben last year.

Now, head on over to Made and check out the boy fun!

Kendra is expecting her third child, a girl, near the end of the month. We have had the pleasure of getting to know her and her enchanting family over the past month and I can only say I can’t wait to get to know them even better. They are uber-fun to be around and easy going and it is always a big plus when new friends will play super geeky games like Carcassone with us.

We picked one of the less frigid days of the week for a mini-session. I say mini because it was cold, there were no outfit changes and we needed to get home quickly as her husband was recovering from surgery and we left him with their two children (nothing he totally couldn’t handle). I’m glad we did it but I definitely would have loved more time with her! I guess I will happily make up for it at her daughter’s newborn session.

Kendra, I had such a good time with you and we all can’t wait to meet Kambry!

I do have other things to blog about besides this project. Maybe the below 0 temperatures and snow are diminishing my resolve to blog more often. Who wants to sit in front of a computer when you could be sitting in front of the fire. With hot chocolate. And fuzzy slippers.

I thought this weeks theme of “Warmth” was a perfect juxtaposition for the reality of the frigid tempertures outside.

I took a more figurative view on warmth with my two kids cuddled up together (and yes, bribes were offered).

I usually do not use many actions but I wanted to warm this picture up quite a bit and I used several actions from Peta Mazey’s Childs Play Actions set.

I am hopeful that the worst of the weather is over and spring will be here soon. I am booking up for March and April so if you would like to do a session get in touch with me soon to reserve a spot.

Now go check out Vikki’s blog to see her take on “warmth”…

I spent the last week at my Sister’s house in Colorado.

And it was cold.

Bone-chilling. Breath-taking. Cold.

The day before the negative degrees hit I got this picture of Adalay.

I am going to cheat and use it as the image for my 52 Week Project, “Illustrate a song”. The song, well Dean Martin’s classic, Baby it’s cold outside (although I might just prefer the version from Elf).

I feel like it is cheating because I did not take the picture with the project in mind. We were stuck inside the rest of the week due to the temperatures and I used the weather as an excuse to not get creative. I mean really, how can anyone be creative while inside a house! Sad, so sad. Here I am doing the project to push myself creatively and I flopped the second week!

I guess I will have to bring it big time with next weeks project.

In the meantime it has warmed up and I care not if I ever see a temperature with a “-” in front of it again.

Be sure to check out what Vikki posted for her second project here.
